What Is Meant by Skincare?

Skincare encompasses a range of actions that support the integrity of the skin — including proper nutrition, avoiding excessive sun exposure, and the correct use of emollients and moisturizers. These practices generally help to improve the skin’s appearance. Treatments such as botulinum toxin (Botox), chemical peels, fillers, lasers, microdermabrasion, exfoliation, and retinol therapy are among the modern options people use today, based on their individual skin needs. These methods cleanse the skin both internally and externally, giving it a fresher, more youthful look. Skincare covers a very wide spectrum, and everyone uses different types depending on their personal resources and needs.

There are many different types of skincare. People choose their preferred approach based on their beliefs. Some believe in herbal care and the use of plant-based products, while others consider chemical creams and lab-made substances to be the solution for wrinkles, acne, and skin discoloration. Some begin with homemade remedies, while others turn to professional skincare clinics and engage in more clinical skincare procedures.

The result of all these efforts is that skincare — now proven and accepted — applies to everyone, regardless of age or gender. It helps people feel better about themselves.

In Iran, it’s traditionally been said that if someone feels sad or depressed, they should wash their face with rosewater to "freshen their skin" and improve their mood.

This summarizes the essence of skincare that has recently gained so many followers: along with achieving clean, fresh, and healthy skin, people also experience a great emotional uplift because they’re dedicating time and care to their own well-being.

What’s important to understand is that having good skin is not something inherited through blood or DNA — skin requires daily care. A daily skincare routine is one of the most important steps that every human being — whether man, woman, child, or elder — should take. Everyone should dedicate 20 to 30 minutes a day to their skincare routine.
